“Things that don’t match but belong together, are the most beautiful.” – Seattle Kangaroo
I love eclectic spaces – those spaces with a wide-ranging style which still feel cohesive and inviting all at once.
This room began with the coffee table; I loved the lines created by its black metal base and the contrast they created with the cool toned wooden top. I imagined this table in a bright white room and knew it needed a dark complimentary component in the room to balance the dark accents, so I pulled this navy sofa. It’s not easy to see in this collage, but the sofa has a large subtle chevron detail, which ties in well with the chosen area rug.
Picking up on the cool tones I gravitated towards the basket, which is great for holding throws or corralling dog toys; it matches the tree’s pot, but brings a different texture to the room. To warm up the space I grabbed these two chairs, they have a slightly warmer toned wood; the back and side of these chairs bring woven another texture to the room.
To balance these out, I chose this really great brass lamp and caramel checkered throw. The throw pillows subtly play off the patterns present in the room, also pulling pattern or colour from one another.
There is a final touch of woven texture, but this time in a dark tone atop the coffee table. I styled a brass curvy hourglass next to a ombre navy vase with a sharper upper edge which ties well back to the lines of the coffee table. I imagine the vase filled with light green and pale pink tone florals. To finish off the room who can resist a set of marble coasters with a an interesting stripe detail.
